It was my first-ever show at Lakmé Fashion Week in India I had never done anything like this before. My first show was for Monisha Jaising onboard a beautiful cruise, which just added to the ethereality of the moment. How was your experience at your first-ever show at Fashion Week? This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. This time, I invested a significant amount of time in preparing myself by watching YouTube auditions and makeup tutorials. I decided to leave Nepal, and tried again for the third time. I thought I could make it in India, so I tried for Lakmé Fashion Week in 2016, but I couldn't get through the first time-or the second time either. While I was still modelling in Nepal, everyone told me that I should try abroad. How did you find your way to the biggest catwalks in India? Looking back, my first big break came in 2009 when a local magazine, Voice of Women, did a feature on transgender people and put two of us on the cover. ![]() Coming from a non-fashion background, I had to first start learning more about modelling, makeup and grooming. When I disclosed my identity in 2005, I knew that this was the moment to go for it. I came to Kathmandu after school to study further, and everyone kept telling me that I had the right face and height for modelling. I never thought I had it in me to become a supermodel either all I knew was that I wanted to make a decent living for myself. Where I grew up, in the Nuwakot district in Nepal, we didn't have much exposure to fashion. How did you get your first big break in the fashion industry? ![]()
